I’m Jude and I’ve been running on and off for the past 4 years. I started running because I wanted to push myself and do something I didn’t think I’d be able to do. I had numerous health problems and it was really great to not feel frustrated with my body but be impressed with what it’s able to do (with some training!).
My first ever 5k was in Edinburgh’s Botanic Gardens and I loved running in such gorgeous surroundings. That’s what first attracted me to take part in the Supernova run back in 2015 – the idea of running in the dark (!!) around the iconic kelpie sculptures was really exciting.
I’ve taken part in the Supernova run for the past 2 years and I’ve loved it – it’s turning into one of my highlights of the year. The first year I did it I ran my fastest 5k ever, I’m hoping to beat that record at this year’s event. Last year was disappointing because I was recovering from a chest infection – I still ran it but I wasn’t at my best! But that’s one of my favourite things about running, it’s about personal achievement and I can still feel proud that I completed the 5k despite not being at peak fitness.
I’m not training for this year’s event yet beyond my typical workouts (going to the gym and doing pilates/yoga). I’m going to New York at the end of August and I’m planning on starting training as soon as I get back and hopefully sneak in some runs in Central Park! I’m looking forward to updating you soon with my progress.
